Am finally confident to shear my own sheep! Completed half of my lambs, and the battery ran out on my handypiece! Next round is tomorrow. I think the kids like a bit of a haircut! Merry Christmas!
While I am now happy to shear my lambs and weaners (top), I don’t think I will reach the lofy heights of shearing the adults! 100% effort from Matt givimg the boys a haircut (lower pic!)
Such a fantastic initiative by this Melbourne based group to support local fibre producers! http://www.fibreshedmelbourne.com/knitalong-providers/
I am constantly amazed at the talent of friends and clients who purchase raw fleece. A very good friend Anne sent me a photo of her finished spun wool from sheep ‘NQ’ (pictured). NQ was born in August 2014 and it was quickly identified that he had special needs. He is an absolute darling and has a forever home in Woodend to support an orphan lamb. I visit him and his wonderful custodian Raelene often… as she is also another talented spinner and artisan. I am very blessed. I look forward to seeing other creations from Cloverleaf Corriedale Stud fleeces!
Poor little lamb broke her leg….dang. With a few tears I took her to the vet. She has an unstable fracture of her joint..a break at the growth plate. She is now called Jess after the vet who spent so much time with her. Fingers crossed the break will heal well and her leg will grow normally. Unfortunately her first time mum just did not see her and stood on her ankle. :-(
Little Jess had her cast taken off today (23/10/17). She is a little bow legged and tender, but seems pretty content!... The break on 22/9/17, second xray on 9/10/17 and the cast came off on 23/10/17 (splint cast changed weekly as the was growing quickly).
Two days shearing in NSW at https://www.burbidgefarms.com/wool-harvestinghas made me a convert for these cradles! If there were ever a longitudinal study on shearers quality of life using different shearing methods…the cradle I suspect would be best practice! Now I just need to raise the money to buy one LOL.
An impromptu meeting at a clearing sale of this wonderful couple Sam and Clara, has been such an enriching experience. Their life mission and passion for what they do is contagious! (Photo courtesy of Blueprint Adventures)
